Chlorogenic Acid: Weight-Loss Evidence & Limitations

Chlorogenic acid is often discussed through green coffee extract research. Some trials report weight changes, but the evidence base has important limits.

What one meta-analysis found

A 2023 systematic review/meta-analysis reported body-weight reduction for green bean coffee extract providing at least 500 mg/day of chlorogenic acid. The authors also emphasized limited sample size, short-term studies and the need for more long-term effectiveness and safety trials.

Why dose and formulation matter

That result cannot be applied automatically to every supplement listing chlorogenic acid. The tested amount, source, formulation, duration and study population matter.
